TaDa! Ive driven cars with spools on the street. It sucks. Im not a "race car" kinda guy. If it affects ride quality or my comfort, forget it. Fat kids gotta have his a/c and i dont want to have to cringe on every turn i make.

Rob is a sissy, he owns three cats. I would expect nothing less from a tree hugger like him. JK...

Detroit Locker is the way to go on the street. As input torque is increased, the harder it is for one to unlock. They can make a little noise when locking and unlocking going around corners, but at least you know it is the normal operation of the unit. The Powertraxx inserts operate on the same basic principal as the Detroit Locker, but the operating parts are a little smaller. The neat thing about the Powertraxx is that you don't have to deal with resetting your gear contact pattern as you do when going to a DL carrier. On the other hand, a DL with its larger components will take more abuse.
Spools are much cheaper and simpler, though. Spools will require C-clip eliminators or weld on 9" ends with press on axle bearings. If you have a C-clip rearend and are considering going the spool route, don't forget to factor in the cost of these additional items to make a spool package complete. Of course if you already have a Ford 9", you obviously don't have to deal with converting away from C-clips. Hope this clears up things for those of you trying to decide between the DL or a spool.

I definately would not put a spool in anything that I drove in the street on a regular basis.
