Maybe not lasers but a bright handheld light comes in handy!

None of these trainers recomend laser targeting in a defence situation.
While cool in a movie laser grips or sights are of little practical use. And good luck hitting a moving target with them.

Ninja!

No ill feelings from me on the subject, as I fully respect someone as yourself that has taken the time to seek the training that you have taken.

In my opinion, if you are laser sight equiped, make sure that when you practice and train, use your iron sights and don't get yourself in the habit of relying solely on that red dot, because that dot won't do you any good in daylight situations. I view the laser as a good supplement for low light scenarios. Typically, most urban encounters with street thugs will most likely happen after the sun goes down.

Now, when considering the scenario such as the recent Mumbai attacks, I agree that a laser may not be the best choice, but neither is a pistol vs. a rifle either. All you can do in that posistion is to try to use the element of suprise to be able to take one of them out with your pistol and take the rifle from them for your own use.

Also, older people with less than optimum eyesight have grown to really appreciate the benefits of the laser for their own use, since they have difficulty focusing on things close up such as iron sights. The dot will enable them to focus out on the target, instead of a set of fuzzy looking iron sights.

Whatever you decide to equip yourself with, practice, practice, practice. The best equipment won't do you any good without a good operator with good judgement behind them.
