Sweeeeet! It sure is hard to beat an 870 for reliability and simplicity.
It shure is nice to have a tax free weekend for firearms. I participated in this tax free holiday myself today. I picked up a Savage 10FP .308 tactical today for $585. Now, off to spend some more money for a nice piece of glass to go on top of it. I should be able to handle anything out to 800 yards with it when I get done setting it up. I have a feeling that some difficult times are ahead of us and such long range capability may be needed.

semi auto?? Gorgeous man!!! Weve got 3 12 gauges but never shot any of em. I love goin to the range and shootin!! Weve got this beautiful AR180B with a 30 round banana clip and that thing is BAD, but weve also got this H&K and that thing is REALLY BAAADDDDD!!!!!! like that thing left a pretty nice bruise in my shoulder the first time i shot it. We also have a ruger P89, a colt .38 special thats been shot less than 50 times and has been appraised at over 4 grand, a SA .45, a calico 9mm rifle w/ a 50 round and 100 round drum, a smith and wesson 9mm, and several deer rifles even tho we dont hunt, but theyre the cheapest thing we can get to a sniper rifle. Were a gun loving family :bigthumb:

My family has never been into hunting but also doesnt have anything against it. This is my First shot gun. I've been asked a few times how someone grows up in Western Ky and never owns a shotgun till now but its true.
Going to take me a little while to get used to this. I'm a handgun man but those ducks are a little hard to hit with a pistol.

nice buy brad! wish i knew about this a few weeks ago and i wouldnt have had to pay tax on the new 45!
the glock is a great gun. the only bad news i have heard about those are the 45 versions exploding when fired. i was stuck between the glock and XD but went for the XD because i liked the grip safety in the XD and the XD gear you get with it. you will see the holster it comes with is right handed, i am left handed so i called up SA and they shipped out a lefty paddle holster no charge! otherwise they are the same guns. another good one to look at is the walther P99. very accurate and i have liked it from the start. if you wanna go 1911 without the price tag, check out rock island armory. thats what i just picked up. you can find them from 350 up to 500. they shoot very well and have a great factory warranty. if your lookin for somethin to plink with every once in awhile i would go with that instead of the kimber. below is a pic of their base model GI 45. as with any 1911, you can do anything you want with it. the only thing i plan on doing is sights and an ambi safety (their tactical comes standard like that but its black for around 400-450)

That is a sweet looking two-tone stainless P226 you got there. I shot a 9mm P226 at ATP a while back, and it is definitely a lot less kick than their P220 in .45ACP. I love Sigs for their excellent accuracy and reliabilty, but the P220 has too high of a bore axis for me, as it causes noticeably more muzzle flip than my 1911.
I wouldn't diss the 9mm for a personal defense round, though. Take a look at the pic below that illustrates what the Federal HST JHP can do compared to the .45 ACP. You can get Federal HST through www.ammunitiontogo.com. They have excellent prices on the HST.

I bet you can conceal that Glock of yours with the proper IWB holster. Check out www.crossbreedholsters.com when you get a chance. I carry a fullsize 5" barrel 1911 everyday and no one knows the wiser. Check out the pic below. Of course, the 7/8" wide slide and frame of a 1911 makes for easy carry, too.

Neat thing about the .40 S&W and the .357 Sig is that they both use the same slide, as the bases of both of the brass cases are the same size. All you need to do both of those calibers is one slide and the 2 different barrels and their respective magazines. The 9mm slide is its own animal.
That .357 Sig is one fast handgun round. A little too much pentration for me for closeup urban attitude correction, but great out on the farm when you see a nusiance coyote about a hundred yards away and all you have with you is your pistol. Just aim that super-accurate Sig of yours at the top of his back and it should drop right into ole Wiley's vitals from 100 yards out.

I once debated between an AR and the Mini-14. I like the inherent accuracy of an AR, along with the aftermarket support for it, but the operating system was a thumbs down for me. The Mini-14 has a gas piston operated action much like the original M-14 military rifle, so the receiver stays cool and fairly clean.
I went with a Wal-Mart all weather Ruger Mini-14 with all stainless metal parts and synthetic stock instead for $580. Of course, Mini-14s are not known for accuracy out of the box, but if you get a 2008 model and later, they are built with a thicker barrel blank than their predecessors. I installed an Amegaranges scout optics rail which stiffens up the barrel tremendously, a Bushnell 1X red dot(on a budget), and the just released Advanced Armament folding stock (BTW, no folding stocks on an AR because of the buffer assy!!!). My best group has been 2" @100 yards through the 1X magnification Bushnell with both eyes open.
It is amazing how easy it is to hit stuff on the run with your optics mounted forward and both eyes open. Zombies don't move that fast, but Obama fans are known to get pretty damn fast when properly motivated!

My little $300 Charles Daly has had not one problem in 6-7 years. Im speaking of a 12 ga. though, not a pistol (if they even make pistols).
Everyone downs the Charles for being "cheap" and bla bla bla, but I didnt see the point in getting a Browning or Benelli classed shotgun that does the same exact thing.

The only Charles Daly's I have handled are the 1911s. The fit and finish of those are not good. I used to throw a lot of lead down range and have broken every brand of gun I have had. I had a Glock 32 shear the lug off the barrel at 32,000 rounds. Keep shooting it will fail.

I went to trader world today just to see what they offered as far as AR15/M4's and they were totally sold out from this past weekend. They hardly had any hand guns in stock also. The owner told me a bushmaster would run me $1100 and a Colt would run me about $1300... which I think if kind of high myself. Hell, I can get a bush master shipped for around $900 from the right place. I still think I am going to stick with building my own rifle unless I can find a used one at a great price.

I don't think you're gonna find too many used AR15's or parts for a good price right now. Some people are buying up every lower receiver they can to hold onto later. Not because they think they will need it down the road, but because if the AWB comes around again, it will be longer than 10 years. Those who bought Ar15's before 1993 made loads of cash during our 10 year AWB. Pre-ban rifles were going for 2500$+ after a few years. No one really cared about complete rifles..just having the pre-ban lower receiver (it made everything else legal).
The pre-ban lowers during that time only afforded you with the legality of mounting a bird cage, bayonet lug (worthless) and a telescopic stock...so it wasn't really worth it over the-then "legal to buy AR15s". If they get their shot at another AWB...they aren't going to water down the AR15's again...they are just going to ban them completely (which means you can keep what you have but the manufacturers can no longer make/sell anymore of the "banned" rifles..or can only make watered down versions if that is the new law).
I'd say, at the very least, just buy a lower receiver from Bushmaster/Colt/armalite...anyone who has it in stock. Then, you can piece the rest of it together later.

To buy a Ruger you have to be OK with the fact that they sold us down the river on the " Assult Weapons Ban". If you want a battle rifle that works get a FAL or an AK.
The original William Ruger that founded Ruger passed away back in 2002. He was the lone one that practiced the psuedo-support for the original AWB. Now that he is gone, the powers that run Ruger now are solidly in the anti-AWB camp. You can even get 20 round Mini-14 factory mags from Ruger now without the dreaded "For Law Enforcement Only" crap on them. The Ruger factory is having them on sale right now for $30 each.
Luckily, for you AR fans out there, you can get mags for your AR for half that amount, but both the AR and the Mini platform each have their pluses and minuses.
Ruger has even come out just recently with an NRA commemorative version of the Mini-14 with two 20 round mags straight from the factory. That would have never happened with the original old man running the show.
I figured I would post a better shot of the sig .

I also fretted somewhat about revealing my posistion with the lasergrip at first, but by the time (less than a second) that it would take me to squeeze the grip to light the dot on the target, I could get first shot off via the element of suprise, and my position would be revealed after that anyway from the muzzle flash/noise.
The correct strategy for using the lasergrip in the dark would be to leave it off as long as possible until you are sure you are about to squeeze the trigger. The laser works great for moving targets, too.

I don't fret. I do however believe that if you are in a fair fight your actics suck. While I am sure your knowledge of transmissions is good, but I am not sure about your skill and knowlege in tactical firearms training. I am not a expert either, but I have taken several classes with John Farnam of Defence Training Northwest, Damien Vaught of Advanced Defence, and at Blackwater USA. None of these trainers recomend laser targeting in a defence situation.
While cool in a movie laser grips or sights are of little practical use. And good luck hitting a moving target with them.

No ill feelings from me on the subject, as I fully respect someone as yourself that has taken the time to seek the training that you have taken.
In my opinion, if you are laser sight equiped, make sure that when you practice and train, use your iron sights and don't get yourself in the habit of relying solely on that red dot, because that dot won't do you any good in daylight situations. I view the laser as a good supplement for low light scenarios. Typically, most urban encounters with street thugs will most likely happen after the sun goes down.
Now, when considering the scenario such as the recent Mumbai attacks, I agree that a laser may not be the best choice, but neither is a pistol vs. a rifle either. All you can do in that posistion is to try to use the element of suprise to be able to take one of them out with your pistol and take the rifle from them for your own use.
Also, older people with less than optimum eyesight have grown to really appreciate the benefits of the laser for their own use, since they have difficulty focusing on things close up such as iron sights. The dot will enable them to focus out on the target, instead of a set of fuzzy looking iron sights.
Whatever you decide to equip yourself with, practice, practice, practice. The best equipment won't do you any good without a good operator with good judgement behind them.
