hopefully the nasty weather is behind us and we will try to kick off the TD races in March.
on March first, i will start a post " top dog callouts" everone just post your callout in the same thread. you will only be calling out a spot. if your in the top 10 you can only call out 3 spots ahead. past that 8 spots. the callout list thread will last for 7 days. then a schedule of races will be posted.
I would also like to try something, If a car drives to the track, he can make another callout after the races finish whether he won or lost his callout race. this will give guys a chance to leapfrog a good amount. you will need to prove you drove the car buy taking pictures along the way with landmarks in the pic(such as weigh station on 26) also in the pic, obviously your dash and that days newspaper.
BIG HEMI will be in charge of the rules and he may make a post about the rules. He doesnt know really anyone here so he can be fair to everyone.
Whaler, hopefully will run the show at the track
Hopefully this works out pretty good and we can have a good time. i dont think the races will take long so if we get there early, we can run a good amount of times before we even start the TD races

ray take me off the top dog list please. i will be working 7 days a week until the end of march. then i have to take it to columbia to be tuned and painted after that, so i won't be able to take part right away. i would like to later one but i can't right now. thanks

If it does then I'm out. I don't have drag radials either, I only have slicks. So I guess either way I'm out

The pic of the dash and the newspaper sounds like a pain in the ass. You would think that we would notice if our challenger drove in the gate or on a trailer.

Alright fellas...I updated the rules. I was unaware of just how many of you are running slicks when you're at the track, so no more tire rule.
Changed the muffler rule for the turbo guys.

well my car is alot more docile then yours, i would have no problem doing it or having a co pilot do it but with a radical car like yours, i understand your situation

come on chillerman, you cant put a seat in your car? i can understand tires because they cost $400 but a seat? its supposed to be a street car thing because everyone was complaining about race cars now everyone has a race car. i would like to see you on the list
look, my car has exhaust that goes all the way out the back bumper, i have cutouts on my car and it is faster when i open the cutouts but i'm not allowed according to the rules but you dont hear me whining about it guys. lets just meet the rules that have already been changed twice and go have some fun

I took the seat out for weight reduction. Car still has tags & insurance. It's a trailer queen with slicks on it. I still have a stock 302 that only makes decent power on the spray. We have been trying to get it to run in the 6's before the 408 goes in. This will most likely be the last year I keep tags on it since it is evolving into a race car. I'm not whining about the rules, just a pain in the ass to get the seat out of the attic and put it in the car. If that's how it has to be, we can comply, as we do want to compete, just don't want to slow the car down.

02-22-2010, 11:37 PM
my daily will be the blazer when its fixed and i only had one seat in it and drove it 30 miles one way each day to work. I think the whole thing is getting complicated and in the end the RACE CARS will be on the top anyway. It's all for fun and people are getting their panties in a wad over trivial BS. Next you'll hear people bitching because they need stips.
I also think the deal with trailer vs no trailer is BS. I trailer in case I break. my truck has broken every trip to the track. who's paying the towing? Who's putting my truck on their trailer so I can get home? See no one but me. So I plan to trailer to save a towing bill. It's for economical reasons because my truck definitely isn't fast enough to warrant it.
If someone doesn't have a trailer to use its not my fault.

he isnt saying you have to drive it. but if ya do he wants proof that you did the whole way and not unload it right before the race. and you get extra points for it. ill trailer mine also if i plan to shoot it. ya never know what might happen

I just disagree with the extra points for driving to the track. But I'm not losing sleep over it. I already know I'm definitely not the fastest or even in the top half. So its all for fun and a few days at the track.

the reasons for the extra callout is for guys like you guys that probably wont get the Top Dog spot but can add more wins by driving to the track.
lets say, one of the faster cars cant make it one month and drops far down the list, he can drive his junk to the track and pick up 16 spots in one month if he wins both races.
IF anyone that lives real far, lets say 1iron wants to drive to the track, he is more than welcome to unload his car at my house and i would love to cruise right along next to him to bowman.

You can make all the rules in the world but someone is still going to gripe and complain about something. Since this is intended to be a "street car" orientated event, here are my suggestion to help solve some of the BS before it starts.
Simply run it like nmra/nmca or similar street car shootout series. In place of the 30 mile cruise have everyone meet up at the college park rest area unload and drive to dorchester (only 20 miles) And i edited the tire rule to allow slicks at the track.

Guys, please don't try to find a reason "not to race". This is a very reasonable, relaxed set of rules, designed to let most of the cars on the site race together. If you have fun, does it really matter if you don't win the points? It's not like you're paying an entry fee. If you were, then I can understand. If I had a car, I'd be in it even if I had to race against the slowest of cars on the list. At least I'd be racing one weekend a month.

And for the guys complaining about seats...if you have no plans to put the passenger's seat back in your ride, then don't make plans to run the Top Dog races.

The rules i suggested are not complicated by any means. They are a set of proven non-bias rules that have worked for years in multiple organizations. Why try and re-invent the wheel.
It keeps getting reiterated that this is a street car event, so meeting up and cruising a short distance to the track should not be a problem for anyone on the list. I personally think it would add some fun to the event.

Two issues I have with those rules...
One...They only allow stock suspension cars. I know there are a couple, if not more, street cars on this board that do not have stock suspension.
Two...While a cruise would be fun and would possibly expose a car that isn't exactly streetable, the fact is that it would take a fair amount of time and effort to get it organized and completed. It would just add more complications to something we are trying to keep as simple as possible.

I understand exactly what you are trying to accomplish, but your current rules have more holes in them then a fishnet. I was just trying to help solve that a little. It really doesn't bother me. The way it stands i could enter a 10.5 outlaw car in your " Street Car" race if i had one.

I hope it all works out too. I want to keep it simple...I've been involved with a few different street car series that always get so screwed up they fade away. Tried to do it at Darlington...they wanted a bracket race instead of heads up. 710 dragstrip's king of the street race is a damn joke...they don't even need a rulebook, it all depends on how Glenn is feeling that particular day. This year they aren't even making the cars be tagged and insured. The PFSC was an all mopar headsup series that dissolved after 2 years b/c they kept changing the rules so much that everyone said to hell with it.
Noone is gonna bring a high caliber car to a race like this that has no money involved.
You can't limit drivetrains at all. I don't agree in limiting suspension style b/c people have been driving big tire backhalved pro street cars on the street for decades.
This is for FUN.

Quote from the rules:
Top Dog List
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TDL: The top dog list just a friendly list of local racers that love to race.
Rules:car must be registered and insured by you. no lexan windows and no delay boxes. trans brake ok. Only family member can drive your car.
all callouts will go in a thread i start (TOP DOG CALLOUTS FOR MONTH XXX)on the 1st of each month. Do not start your own thread. it will get deleted. The callout thread will last for 7 days. in the 2nd week of the month, a list of races will be posted.
*****important, when you do a callout, your calling out a spot. not a particular person. buy the time you get to race, the person you thought you were going to race may have advanced or declined on the TOP DOG leader board******
3rd weekend of every month we will race at Bowman on a saturday
cars that dont show up for their callouts will lose their spot on the list and will be counted as a WIN for the person doing the callout. if we have a rain out/ or special occasion we will move the race to the 4th weekend.
All races will run on a Pro Tree and a red light loses.
TOP DOG and MOST WINS will recieve Prizes at the end of the year. WINS will be posted next to each members name. driving to the track will earn you a win credit
TOP DOG will start ASAP in the Spring of 2010
...and remember this list is just for fun.
Big Hemi and Ray,
Thanks for the effort. I agree with keeping it simple and letting as many people from this site in as possible. I hope everyone will give this a chance and not argue before it starts. I personally think the most wins will likely come from a car somewhere in the middle of the pack from a street driven car.

Mike, quit complaining if you're not entered. Your car has been as fast as anything entered. No where does it say "actual real street car event". If Wes wants to enter, let him half track everyone. Who cares? It's about getting a group together to race and have fun. No one is losing an entry fee to be there.

I have no interest in being part of this Ringling bros. circus at the present time. I'm just picking apart the rules because they seem to be catered to race cars with an identity crisis.
I never said wes shouldn't be allowed to race. I was pointing out the fact the rules are too vague to be effective in accomplishing anything. They should drop the sherrade and just say TDL Run what you brung instead of trying to pass it off as something its not.
And this is where the street car race is stated. I can qoute things too. :poke:
i understand, but streetcars are a comprimise<sp? i dont think the rules are that out of line for a supposed "street car race" that is just for fun anyway.
The main objectives are to keep this deal simple and most of all have the participants be in REAL street cars.

I think everyone needs to take the rules with a grain of salt. There so many variables, other than the rules, that could come into play. Just come out, do some racing, and have some fun. I don't think anyone will have high expectations considering it's not a 10k to win series, lol.
I agree with Chris in a way...
If it's faster, then I suck.
If it's slower, then it must be a 4 cylinder.

91notch...all kidding aside, even with the true street rules you suggested, a car like Wes' would still be legal to run, or should I say kill everybody else on the list. If he and Steve Jackson want to come out and kick our asses, then by all means, I'd love to see it.
What I'm saying is that no matter what rules you have, someone COULD show up with a combo set on kill and clean house. But the fact is that noone with a car of that caliber is gonna do that for a race like this.
Just for example, why eliminate Kenny Mcdonald from racing in this deal? From what I gather, he has a big tire back half car that is more of a street car than a lot of people's stock suspension cars.
Alright, I'm tired of arguing. I haven't been on the track yet this year so I'm getting very anxious to get this thing started and have some fun.

IMO... your rules are screwed up. you need tags and insurance to race but a non DOT tire is allowed. I think let every car run even drag cars how they sit if they want too. A slower car driven to the track can still win because it gets a win for driving to the track. You could rotate between Bowman and Dorchester since over 3/4 of the list has to pass Dorchester to get to bowman.
Also if you cant take constructive criticism then come lick my blooding vagina fags...

how different is an ET Street to a ET Drag tire?
a little carpet on the floor to make an interior look complete is not to much to ask for "street car rules"
Bowman is giving us lanes to work out of, only $10 to get in and will change the tree.
Dorchester is not open either and i was told last night its being repaved so i dont know when it will be open.

My only beef with the rules is the way the list is ranked. I think it would be better if the tdl was determined by times ran on the tdl race days or maybe a points system, instead of people on the list having to call out each race. For example, lets say you make it out on the first tdl day and finish the day top dog. Awesome, right?
Then, the next race day you get called out by everyone on a day you have to work. Now you have dropped to last, just because you couldn't make it.
Next thing you know we finish the season with MonteC and his Akra Intugra as top dog because maybe he was the only one to show up for the last race or someone broke.
Now this isn't really a big deal to me, since I am painfully slow and would finish last whether I made every race or not. I just think it would be cooler if at the end of the season, the top dog was the fastest car that went to some of the tdl races.

I don't see it as people bitching I see valid points. looks like the rules were set around a few vehicles only. oh there is also a difference between a ET Street and a ET drag. The ET Street is DOT legal and the ET drag is a slick. we run an ET street radial which most run here but its gotten pretty amusing to see the rules change to fit certain vehicles.
How about,
carpet/seating: hell you can pull your interior out just as easy as it is for us to install seats. quit your crying
Tires: are they rubber? Looks like they will work as long as they are round.
Track: well hands down Bowman is a better track. There is more of a chance the races will not finish at Dorchester due to debris, trains, and normal delays in racing we see nightly. if someone breaks and we are not broken, we'll gladly help get them home if they fit on the trailer. I also do not like staying too long at Dorchester for obvious reasons.
Why not throw the stips out and run what ya brung and hope you brung enough!
You can keep the "if you drive to the track bla bla bla " rules if it helps get people in the staging lanes.

Valid points = complaining. In the eyes of the TDL committee.
opinions = bitching.
The reason I say let everybody run how they sit(even allow promods if they want too) is because nobody will have to spend money or change their car. If you drive in the gate its a free win. That way will be less of a headache for all of us and their is nothing to bitch about. You say yall want to up participation but your limiting participation by running off drag cars.
