Going to take the dive here in the next few weeks and start throwing a solid together for the car. Anyone know a place with a jig to weld up the tubes nice and true? And any idea on what this will run me? Im trying to price everything out before i end up getting in over my head halfway through and having to stop and wait on stuff to get done. I think im going to attempt the build myself, but i wouldnt trust my welds on a bicycle and i want it done right.

never welded them before but i would think that putting a few small welds around in different areas would keep it from distorting. then make some heavy passes around it. but i dont know for sure

Yep, just a sequence. Same way you would do thin wall pipe for long runs that you don't want dog legs in. Sequence it for the root and fill passes, then cap it.

I use a 7018 arc welding rod to weld mine.I did it in quarters like has been said already. The third member is cast steel so a rod or wire with a higher tensile strength is better to use.Preheating a little helps also and helps purge out the oil and road grime from between the third member and axle tube.I can weld it also but not till this weekend though.
