Default New iPhone 5 and a speed test

Upgraded mine and the wife's phones to iPhone 5 today. The LTE is definitely faster but the Verizon signal seems to be weak. If I switch it over to 3G I get more bars. However I did do some speed test on my Wi-Fi, LTE, and also 3G. These numbers don't really mean anything to me, but I'm sure one of y'all can translate. So far I like the phone, only beef is the signal difference between this one and the iPhone 4.

Top test is 3G
Middle test is LTE (4G)
Bottom is WiFi

Both my iPhone 5 and my coworkers on lte are quicker than the wifi on our network. I love mine.

I know why the wifi is slow, I'm fixing that that tomorrow but I don't understand why there is such a big difference between my test and Carls on the 3G and LTE with the same provider and same phone.

The Cell site you are working off of is slower than the Site that Carl is working off of. That is the only difference between the two.

one guy told me Sprint DOES NOT have 4G in this area...and if you have Sprint, that's why your smart phone battery dies, because it is constantly searching for 4G.

so basically...my Sprint 4g phone is slower than dial up sometimes....

Also all of Verizon's sites are not 4G, only a few. Reason is Verizon hasn't upgraded all their transmitters to 4G. Normal Verizon phone service and 3G is in the 800mhz frequency range, and 4G is like 1.5Gigahertz (1500mhz), they have to upgrade their transmitters to 1.5ghz, Their transmitters are only about 100k each, so they tend to upgrade in areas with the most return on investment. Verizon advertises 4G, but not all their sites in the tricounty have 4G service, but they all have 3G.

LTE is that much faster, however every iPhone I've ever owned has had shitty service. I got rid of my 4 and 4s because of this. I have the razr maxx still and pull anywhere between 10mbps inside at work to 20+ when at home. I have seen it peak above 32mbps.
