Default Nitrous guys inside......

Recently I've added a N/X kit to my truck (special thanks to Mitch,Bill, and Mike). I've been hesitant to spray it until we've had a chance to datalog the parameters.Well yesterday was the day,and after a few hiccups with the wiring we tried it out.Now our tuner wants us to use straight C16 fuel in any race applications and nitrous is no exception because of the timing in this particular tune that I'm using. I didn't have enough C16 so I used a combination of fuel to raise the octane. The mixture was about a 1/4 tank of 93,five gallons C16 and about 10 gallons 100 unleaded. We put in the prescribed fuel/no2 pills for a 50 shot and took it out and gave it a go. The first run we had to back out because the A/F went too lean around 13.5,so we went back and changed to a richer fuel pill, and tried it again.A/F went back doen to 11.7...Now heres my question...why did it go lean with the proper combo of jets.1. because of the supercharger? (boost) or 2. the fuel combination. After thinking about it last night I know that the 100 unleaded is oxygenated....Thanks for any input

Did it go lean on the initial hit ? Or did you stay in it a little ? Because it might take a second or two for the fuel solenoid to get enough fuel in there . Alot of people with wet kits have an lean spike on the initial hit . I don't know about N/X but most nitrous companies make the out of the box jet sizes very safe . I would think the out of the box jets would supply more than enough fuel .

But as Mike learned listen to your tuner ! If he says C16 use it !

Both times the initial hit was lean and then fattened up ,but the first time it didn't fatten up enough............

Have you guys thought of flying JDM down here and just getting it all done with?

Just curious.

honestly i would just stick to the c16 like the tuner says. i did the same thing as you and just pilled for more fuel but you won't be getting the same size hit.

Did you purge the system on the first time???

Timing and fuel would be the next thing. I would use the recommended fuel, also and keep an eye on the guages. If it continues get back with the tuner and make some adjustments.

Yup,purged both times. That was the suggested timing. The kit was for a 5.4 EFI.....didn't know if the blower made a difference or the oxygenated fuel was the difference...

Pending on the size of the shot. Did you go with a colder spard plug. and did you re-gap the spark plugs.

How would that make it go lean?

Exactly.

But even so. The initial hit it does spike lean alittle. No biggie. But, i know for a n/a car with just a 50 shot nitrous added you do not have to go a colder plug. Unsure on the blower apps.

Typically what happens in a supercharged vehicle, like a Lightning or 03-04 Cobra, the owners on the gas see's about 90hp increase with a 50hp shot. The reason is the intercooling effects of the nitrous in the intake track, not only does the nitrous add 50hp, but it also dramatically cools the incoming air, making it more dense, and denser air is more air. That is why you will have an initial lean condition, it takes a split second for the mass air meter to compensate for the condition, but if the vehicle is tuned correctly, it should drop to a safe air/fuel ratio after the initial hit. Thats why most people have a nitrous tune and a plain blower tune. Higher octane fuel is very important in this application, because the higher the octane number the slower the burn, and there is alot of heat in there with a blower and nitrous together. Also eventhough you probably changed the plug gap for more boost before, it might also be necessary to close it even more with nitrous, I would really talk to JDM on that, because a goof could cost a motor.
