Default What's the deal with Bowman

For you guys that go there all the time- what's the deal? Seems to be an awful lot of wrecks there....

I was ready to go for the smallblock race this Saturday and changed my mind at the last minute because I was unsure about the track. Glad I did, sounds like a few people had some issues.

Is it a great track for mid 5 second cars, but anything faster than that is rolling the dice? That's the way I see it- correct me if I'm wrong.

The dew set in bad last saturday. When we left the road was wet in front of the track like it rained. That was the cause of one wreck. Sounded like the throttle stuck on stevie's car after darrin pedaled it. Then one wreck was somebody pattin the gas with the nitrous on after the finish.

Yea, track wasnt too bad when the first 2 happened. Then after the clean ups, the track seemed to pull water out with the humidity. It was terrible. The track has an unforgiving surface outside of the groove. A lot of what happens is driver error. I will say that you wouldnt have had the best time hooking Saturday, but like you mentioned, cars not so fast couldve made it work. Then again, ive seen Bowman set on kill a lot, as long as you dont move too far out of the groove.

The groove seems to be the issue. You guys just made a comment that was along the same lines of what I was told when I was trying to decide if I wanted to go there on Saturday- everybody told me if you get out of the groove or feel the car move at all you better lift or else you will end up on your roof. No room for error I guess?

Did the blue car that wrecked really bad ride up the concrete wall and flip?

i will say that with radials, as you know wes, dont move around as much and i normally have no problem there at all. i dont think i have ever got to the point where it scared me. now on slicks would be another story there. if it dances around any you are taking a chance on getting into trouble. as we seen when chris tuten went down, he went straight and from the hear say made a really decent pass and made it look easy. so the track was working but like they said the moisture took its toll.

Exactly^ If you leave the groove, it seems its hell to get back again. Te track has ~5/6 feet of unprepped center that could be the huge issue. But yes, he got up the wall and tumbled. I will say that ive seen the walls help and hurt different incidents, so thats a toss up or opinion. I dont like them either, but.

Tuten also put the car up after that pass and said the track felt like ice on the big end and it took both lanes and the parachute to get the car stopped. He made a good pass but said the shootout wasn't worth wrecking the car.

I know it wasn't worth him going down again. As he told me the first pass got sideways bc he said the brake pulled him right and I would say he would have had the problem there no matter what with the mph he was running. And other than that he had a different reason for being there and finishing the shootout didn't matter at that point.

Either way there are some things that could be done to the track to help like adding a foot or two to both sides of track and prep it a little wider and add some shut down

I would love for Bowman to be a little better. Driving 2.5 hours to Jackson or Darlington sucks. Orangeburg is great but they never open- don't understand that.

I think alot of the problem with the track later in the evening was prep. if you watched them they sprayed the track after the second wreck but didnt drag it. When you apply VHT to a cold track espicially one with dew you have to drag the track afterwards to heat the VHT into the track or its slick as banana peels. If you watched the cars was spinning right out the gate after the second wreck, then shorty took the blow torch and heated the starting line. After that the cars would leave but blow the tires off after 60 feet. If they would have drug the track after applying the VHT the track would have been much better. Dont get me wrong the shut down is also short for something fast, and the lanes do seem narrow..

When i went to bowman i only went 8.0's, but i was able to spin the tires badly enough on shifts that people thought i was missing a shift.
