Just hoping everyone is remembering those guys for what they did on their anniversary. Keep their families in your prayers. Never forget

My house is less than a 1/4 mile from there. I remember that day vividly.
My dad and I were coming back from my sister's house down 17 and I could see the smoke in the distance as we crossed over Rantowles Creek. I knew it was bad. By the time we got to 526 the traffic had backed up to the point that we had to turn around and take the back way to my house. I rode up there on my bicycle but couldn't get too close because of all the chaos. That was some of the blackest, most toxic looking smoke I have ever seen. They will be blocking off that section of Hwy 17 tonight for the private memorial from 6:30-9:00. RIP Charleston 9. |

Sad that 9 had to loose their lives for lack of safety equipment
