Default where to buy a few pounds of good grass in Charleston SC?

seed that is..

just figured that would move the forum up the ranks of GOOGLE search results...

anyways, a 20lb bag of mixed grass seed is ~$39.99 @ Lowes.

I put two of those out last summer..and it all died.
put one more out in fall, when rainy season started, that $40 worth is making some great spots of great.

i need another ~50lbs of grass seed to fill in my yard, but where is cheaper than Lowes?

Grass seed sucks. The big bags are mostly mixes of fescue that don't do well here and centipede mixes are pricey. The only seed that is any good is 100% centipede and a tiny bag was like $40 last time I bought some in ~2000.

Just get some good centipede or St Augustine sod and be done with it. Ask BadBob about his experience with seed.

im in the upstate, but the only thing i have been able to grow in my yard is rye in the cooler months. i planned to send some soil samples off to have analyzed but never did. i need to know what the dirt needs before trying to grow anything else.

okay, that matches my opinion after $80 worth (two $40 bags) died and did nothing.

I am gonna try that lawn & garden shop on 17A (near Madra Rua) and see what they have

If you need your soil analyzed, Clemson extension lab downtown on Meeting Street will give you a whole write on your soil if you bring them three samples. The cost is only $15. They'll also tell you everything you need to know to make grass or trees grow in it.
