Does this tag mean you are a police officer? I see that state trooper tags say Permanent on them, but I was wondering what the plate that says Law enforcement means. Does it mean that you can be a security guard and be law enforcement? I was followed by an unmarked car until I parked, and he said "Do you see that tag back there? It says law enforcement." I didn't get a ticket or anything, but he threatened if I ever passed him like that again he would impound my car.
He was wearing a uniform that said security on his bicep area and had an ID tag on him like he worked at an industrial site. I said ok and walked off. But before he said that he said something into a radio reciever like "Cancel that I lost him." It wasn't like a radio that is attached to your upper chest area. It looked like a CB radio that truckers use. Someone told me that the reason he didn't pull me over was because his lights weren't working.Last edited by bambooi; 09-25-2009 at 05:52 PM. |

Sound fishy. I do know the airport police in greenville SC can give you a ticket.

If it had a plate that said LExxx, That would be an indication that either the person driving or person that owns the vehicle is a Law Enforcement Officer. Now having said, If this person was wearing a Security Officer Uniform. They wouldn't have the authority to pull you over and was probably the reason he didn't. Sounds like he was impersonating a Police Officer!

These are SC specialty tags that some retired and some active LEO's will get. Usually for The Wife or Daughter. Most of us look at them as target indicators so thats why I dont have any on any of my vehicles. If this guy was just a security guard, he got the tag under false pretense. He has absolutely no authority outside of his jobsite and if he had escalated on you, the local jurisdiction would have hemmed his ass up. Yes, we do have way too many posers out there ....

While on the subject. What about those black decals with the blue line? It's seems like every two bit schmuck has one. I bought a car from an auction several years ago that had one on it. The market seems "flooded" so to speak.
Is there another decal that's on the down low that y'all use to signify family of LE officers? Not asking what it looks like or anything, just was curious how Cops can tell who are really "Family" and who are not anymore. |

Stickers that say PBA or FOP are indicators.

FOP stickers use to be handed out like candy when a $25 donation was made.

those black decals with the blue line I thought were "Get out of jail free" cards. I wonder if it's illegal to reproduce them...

Thin blue line is from a code which refers to not getting your own kind(police) in trouble. Check it out on wikipedia. So it is not right for a police officer to get another police officer in trouble. It is something to that extent. It's been a while since I read about it.
