Wednesday of last week a coworker and I decided that we wanted to go see Niagara Falls because neither one of has ever been there. So we start making plans and reservations. I pack my backpack with a few days worth of clothes, my D40 and my brand new passport. Friday afternoon comes along and we left our hotel in Evans Mills, NY that our work is putting us up in to head for Canada at about 2 pm. Four hours and a few gallons of gas later we cross the Rainbow Bridge heading towards the border and the customs gate.
We arrive at a customs booth and show a young Canadian customs officer our passports. She asks a few questions and writes them down on a piece of paper. She then asks us to follow the road to the left. The road into Canada is to the right. So we drive to the left to find out that this was the location of the Canadian detention area. An overweight Canadian customs officer come out and he starts asking us questions. Lots of question. Lots of weird question. He asked us why we were there. We told him that we wanted to see the falls and do some gambling in the casino's. He asked us how we knew about the casinos. Now never mind the internet that's full of useful information but there was about a 500 foot tall building directly behind him that had a huge red neon sign that said CASINO. Im not sure how we found out. LOL He also asked us a lot of other questions that I wont waste your time with but the end result was getting kicked out of Canada for being suspicious because what we told him supposedly didn't match what we told the young lady officer. She probably didn't hear me because she had a dick stuck in her ear because what she wrote on the paper wasn't even close to what I told her. We were detained on the Canadian side for about an hour and then we got detained again on the American side for another hour when we tried to get back in. After getting grilled for about two hours by both sided we drive down the street to get some dinner. We discussed going back and attempting round two because we needed to check into the Marriott on the Canadian side. So we finish our food and head back over. This time it took us about 1 minute of talking with another young Canadian customs officer for her to let us in. So it took us almost as long to get in as it did for us to drive there. LOL Over all it was worth it and it was a really good trip. We even stopped by Buffalo and checked out the Bills V Saints game on Sunday on our way back from Canada. So that mean I have some pics to share. But now I'm pissed after all that hassle I didn't even get a stamp in my passport. We did go to the casino in the pic. It was walking distance from the Marriott. We also went to one down the road a little ways too. Of coarse I lost all my money. LOL its not like I was trying to gather any intel on the Canucks. Thanks Mike. I still have a lot to learn though. |
