Default Hurt the LT1 tonight.

Well looks like the LT1 is hurt after tonight. I ended up making two passes before it went down. On the last pass the car held on to second gear and wrapped up pretty high, 7k or so, so I had to get out of it way before the traps. Car went 7.92 @82 w/ a 1.81 60ft... went to crank it up and heard a bunch of chatter under the passanger VC. We towed the car home and I pulled the valve cover off expecting to find a broken rocker, stud or valve spring... to my suprise they were fine!

I just cant figure out what the noise could be... it doesnt sound like a lifter and the pushrods are not bent. I am wondering if I could have floated the valves and bent one. Then again I have a TON of PTVC considering I run -5cc flat tops and the pistons are still in the hole some (not zero decked).

Any thoughts on what it could be? Here is a video of the noise, you can hear it best in the last ten seconds of the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuLkhZVQacs

Big thanks to Robert, Zac and Brandon for all the help tonight! If it wasn't for those guys I would not have gotte the car home...

Ohhh and thanks to Darryl for getting me lined up! I hooked up well and kinda wish I would have gotten on the converter more... a 1.6 would have been nice to see.

Seems like alot of guys think its an exhaust leak... I did find the rear header bolt missing, but I have never heard a gasket leak squeak like that, even with a leak. I went out there and replaced the bolt and pulled the plugs. They look alright, just a little black, but they are old anyhow.

I am going to pull the push rods tomorrow and check them on a slab of granite. I am really hoping a bearing didnt let go, but I will be sure to rule everything else out before I jump to conclusions.

Man, that sucks. I hope it's just an exhaust leak.

X2

Sounds like time to dump the bottom end on that thing. so go ahead and pull the motor and send the bottom end my way. I'll discard of it properly for you.

I know where there is an Eclipse for sale. It would be a perfect daily driver. Only problem is if you can't handle the power of the purple people eater, I don't know if you would be able to handle the Power of the Eclipse.

that's how my exhaust leak started. I drove I kept trying to find what the hell the noise was and it got louder and started to sound like a cricket.

Sorry to hear that Matt. I wanted to come out to the track so bad last night as the DA was around -1000. I spent the day putting a motor in the Integra I recently bought for a DD and had to finish up homework afterwords. It was too late when I got done.

LOL, it was an exhaust leak. Got it all fixed today. I re-adjusted the lash and everything on the motor and fixed a few odds and ends. Time for some 7.6x's this coming sunday!

That is by far the weirdest sounding exhaust leak I have ever heard... its also crazy how it appeared after a screwy pass. Thanks again to everyone who helped out lastnight!

Neil you didn't miss much... there was hardly anyone out there and it a FREEZING. Plus I only made one pass that would have possibly beat you, even then you probably would have got me on the leave. We will get our race done one of these days. Let me know if you need a hand with that integra.

I figured it was an exhaust leak from the video. That's exactly how mine started out.

I'm hoping to make it out to the track this weekend, but right now I'm in VA

Good to hear it was just an exhaust leak and you got it fixed! Thanks for the offer. I finished up the Integra yesterday and drove it to work today. Gonna save a lot of gas money compared to the TBSS. Come on up to Darlington this Sat and see what the LT1 does in the 1/4.

What the hell are you talking about,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,BIG? You call a 355ci motor with BONE stock heads and a 230/244 duration camshaft big and built? Hell I dont even have a single aftermarket piece of suspension on the car. Oh wait... I do have a built trans... I guess something is wrong.

Where is your car again?

I guess I could tune it back and dial in 8.40's to bracket race.
