Default Speeding ticket

Alright, Tara got a speeding ticket on I95 in SC. She was doing 16 over the posted 70 mile an hour limit, i have thoroughly chastised her so there really is no need to go any further with that.

My question is, do we hire a lawyer for 500 dollars to get the ticket dropped to a non moving violation or have her go to court and get the ticket reduced to a 2 point lesser speeding ticket, which is normal practice as long as the driver is courteous.

My concern is with the ramifications of having a speeding ticket on her driving record. Higher insurance, job seeking and credit. She will be seeking a higher paying job in the next 3-5 years when she finishes her Chemistry degree, it is my understanding that many employers look at your driving record when being considered for a position. Also i have heard that lenders look at your driving record, and of course the insurance hike.

Its a pain in the ass to have to spend 500 dollars plus fine on her carelessness when im trying to dump money into my car. But if my concerns about her records are valid then thats what needs to be done.

Thoughts?

Just go to court and get the fine and points reduced. Nobody most likely even your insurance will even take notice of only a 2 point deduction from her DL. When you start losing 4-8+ points then they start to notice.

yeah, just clean & look nice & take your chances

one ticket isn't a BIG deal.
and I don't know how a prospective employer would get/care about your driving record.
of course, i have only had 2 real jobs in my life, so.....

i would not sweat it. one ticket is prolly the norm now,for most people

I've never had an employer look at my driving record unless my position required me to drive a company supplied vehicle. Some employers and insurance companies do view your credit score which has an impact on the ins. rates and your employment. This should not be a practice allowed imo. A persons credit score or driving record should have nothing to do with employment.
If she has a clean record currently and has had a good driving record in the past some insurance companies will "forgive" the first ticket. The State will also drop 2 points in one year if her record stays clean.

Just do not ask me how I know this...lol But I think I paid for the new asphalt on I-26.

I agree with The Beautician.

If Tara's record is clean a 2 pointer will not be an issue.

I thought maybe you were dealing with a trooper and they can be ballbreakers to a pro se defendant.

I appreciate all of your opinions. I think i will just have her go to court and get the ticket reduced. Thanks!

I have nothing on my record, ticket or accident-wise. Cruise control was certainly my friend again after I got this ticket.

I did get pulled over in NJ in 2004 for "careless driving", which got knocked to "unsafe driving", 0 points, no insurance or record consequences when I went to court for it.

If this is all there is in 3-5 years, I wouldn't worry.

Too bad he didn't ask where we were headed Probably would have distracted him if we said "to NC to pole dance."

ever think about dye'ing your hair blonde? or blame it on that v6 powa.

personally, i would get a lawyer and let him/her deal with it.

but she could plead guilty with a reduced fine, and get away with the same 175 and 2 points on the record.

what kind of non moving violation can a lawyer get the ticket changed to, and is it a guarantee that he will get it done?
