Default So much for metal head gaskets!

I don't think this really needs explained, Pics say it all.

This is what happened from this pass.

everything looks fine except for the actual head. I have a felpro mls here for my good head that is getting machined.

I might pick up another mitsu mls and Oring a head for this next race coming up.

Dude, that car rides when it gets moving but damn all that import shit falls apart when you actually get it making good power.

I give you props for sticking with it and replacing something with the drive train almost every other track outing but damn I would have gotten rid of that shit long ago, I know all that broke stuff has cost you a small fortune.

It's all about finding the right balance and setup, no different than any other car, domestic or import. Chris is getting close.

Not really, for us most of the stock stuff is almost literally the best parts you could buy. Our stock transmissions, axles, rear ends, cranks, driveshafts, blocks, heads and even headgaskets have held up in trucks making well over 1000hp moving 4700lbs for years.

Our rods are the weakest link, and if it wasn't for that they'd be like 03-04 cobras with a motor that can handle 7-800 hp reliably completely stock.

Nither Chris, Me or anyone else around here that are setup similar are nowhere near where the limit is, actually were pretty slow for these configurations. Theres quite a few in the 9's on a setup similar to ours. You know how much power it takes to get a 4000# brick in the 9's?

Its about the engineering threshold, I don't hate or even dislike imports, I own one. But when you design something around 200hp and push it to 6-700 its a whole world different then something that was designed for 400+ hp making 7-800. And you and I both know that the quality of even the most hyped up aftermarket stuff is sometimes not what it is hyped to be.

I have some of the best stuff you can get and tear mine up all the time. When you are pushing the limits, things tend to break. That's just part of it. One of the things that seperate the guys at the top of the ladder and the guys at the bottom is the willingness to break parts. Some guys are scared to death something is going to break, and that's why they are slow. My car is fast but at the end of every pass I am happy if everything is still intact. But if something breaks, oh well, that's part of being fast.

If you started pushing yours to the absolute limits, you will start seeing broken parts on a regular basis too.

To the OP- keep at it!

I understand and I agree with you, especially about aftermarket stuff. But like I said, you can make the same argument with these cars. There are people deep into the 10's on completely stock, untouched motors on these cars, and Evo's with essentially the same motors are into the 9's on the stock block. You are absolutely right, it's about the engineering threshold, I just cringe when I hear people say "import" like it's a bad thing is all, especially when referring to DSM's. I guess I get a little defensive after all these years of hearing people bad mouth them (and no I'm not saying you did, I'm just saying in general)

Your car is a whole diferent level, if you where where we are with your stuff, you would be slow, but the things yours is built out of would take nothing short of dynamite to destroy at the level's of everyone else mentioned in this thread.
