Looking for ideas for a good shotgun for home protection. I want a pump action shorter barreled one. This is strictly for home protection, I won't be taking it skeet shooting or hunting or anything. I'd like some advice from some of the more knowledgeable gun guys on here, and I know there's a good bit of you guys. I'm looking for cheap, emphasis on cheap, I know for some of you big ballers cheap might mean $500, I'm talking like well under $200, and I'm not opposed to buying used at all. Thanks guys!

You can probably troll the pawn shops and find one used for a good price. New is going to be around 500 bucks. Pretty much what I have in 12ga. My wife has a 500 as well, but in 20ga. ![]()

get a mossberg 500 ~$300. fairly short and easy to use. also load up a non lethal round 1st. makes it easy to prove you were just using it for home defense. this is mine and tom with the evo just got one too.

This is the best pump action shotgun in home defense: Kel-Tec KSG. Holds 14+1 rounds.
KSG_3357web.jpg I prefer semi-auto shotguns so my personal home defense weapon is the Saiga 12. saiga_12k_tromix.jpg Sorry, but neither is under $200. You need to look in the pawn shops for a Remington 1100 for your budget.

I have a escort home defense shotgun. I still haven't shot it yet but it is a well built shotgun that is pretty much a copy of a remmington 870. I paid a little under $300 for it at Dick's sporting goods.

After being a Small Arms Instructor in the Navy and teaching with the Mossberg 500 and owning a Remington 870 Police Magnum I will say if it comes down between the two go with the Mossberg. I really like the location of the forearm release as well as the safety better. -Shane

The Reminton 870 will be the cheapest thing I would trust, then the Mossberg. I have an 870. Check pawn shops or wait until SC no tax on firearms day on black friday for the best deal. I LOVE my 870 for the price and it works every time.
