With a Droid you can do that. I call my wife every time she's at target or the mall. Just use Google maps. She doesn't think its funny.

if you have an android phone go to maps, menu, join latitude. You have to get the person you want to "follow" to join and add you as a friend.

But it's pretty accurate.
