Finally got something to work on again. I've been needing something to tinker with. I just picked this up yesterday, it's a 95 Tsi automatic fwd. Not exactly the best combo of dsm, but for the deal I got I couldn't pass it up. 107k original miles, just had the water pump, oil pump, and timing belt done. 100% BONE stock except for intake and 1g bov. I got it from a guy who had it on craigslist for months and simply couldn't get rid of it. He had it for 3 years and rarely drove it, he bought it from the original owner who was that legendary lady that drove it to the grocery store and church on the weekends. I always heard of those stories but I didn't think I'd actually find one.
When I showed up I expected it to be the typical dsm, beat to hell every which way. I was shocked at how clean it was. Anyways, ended up haggling a little and drove it, yes drove it, 20 miles home for $760.00. It does have some issues, hence the low price. The turbo seems to be completely shot, there's a nasty oil leak somewhere, and the headgasket might be on its way out/already blown. The whole way home it was shooting out HUGE clouds of smoke but it cruised smooth as glass. Regardless, I got a steal. Plan is to do some diagnosing, compression test, check the turbo, all that good stuff and try to figure out what's wrong with it. I'll be doing a 2gb conversion on the front bumper, taking off the rear wing and wiper and shaving that, and obviously lowering it with a better set of wheels, that's all I plan on doing for the exterior. I plan on doing a mild turbo to start, maybe an Evo III or if I'm feeling frisky something bigger. My original plan was to gut it and make it a track car only but after seeing how nice it is I think it will stay a street car. If it blows up I'll do an awd swap with a built motor big turbo and keep it auto. Pardon the fuzzy pics, I hurried home from work to wash the car and it was almost dark. And yes I understand some of you won't get the dsm lingo, I copied and pasted this from another forum lol ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Interior looks spotless. Regardless, if it costs you $3000 to get it going right, you did get a helluva deal.

Thanks guys, I've been looking for an auto awd for a long time but I haven't found any decent ones nearby, they're all in the North and I'm not driving that far to pick up a rusted out shell. I definitely want to do an awd swap at some point though.
Most of you probably don't know but it's practically impossible to find these in this kind of shape nowadays, they're all usually beat to hell Last edited by ForceFed4g63; 10-25-2011 at 08:27 AM. |

Did some diagnosing tonight. Turbo is shot, shaft play is the worst I've ever seen. Did a compression test and came back 140-145-150-145. Little on the low side but it's within spec and the motor was cold and it was a drained battery I was jumping with my daily. If all that's wrong with this car is the turbo I'm gonna be so stoked lol

No it's just the stock T-25. The guy I bought the car from bought it used from some douche on teh interwebz, he got hosed and didn't even know it. Now I need to figure out were to go from here, slap a cheap turbo on there and go or take my time and get some big(ger) power parts (LOTS of time before that happens).
