Default Any GM Techs familiar with Remote Start around? savannah?

we got remote start on our Tahoe,
and our daughter wants it on her 2006 pontaic G6.

most recent GM's come 3 ways from factory, from what I can tell:
-nothing for remote start
-most of the parts (remote start module?) installed, but no key fobs
-remote start working.

her dash RPO label says "AP3" which decodes to having all the remote start stuff in there.

tried to buy her a new key fob from berkeley locksmith, he had a cow, saying he HAD to hook it up to a scan machine to program the CPU,
he would not even sell us the fob to try it.

found some instructions on line to program her G6 (several said they were able to do thiers - regardless of what others said/posted)

gave her one of our Tahoe remotes, did not work.

bought a GM remote start module & 2 new Key Fobs off ebay for $60.
she took the modules, and the key fobs to a GM dealer in Savannah, and the mechanic messed with the car for 30 minutes, trying to program in the new key fob, she finally walked over and asked him what he was doing, and he said the service advisor told him it had working remote start on it, just to program in the key.

so....she took it to Best Buy...and they wanted 5 hours ar $100 labor plus parts to put in an afermarket kit.

and the local stereo shop, would not even talk to her, because she's a girl

so she took it to Dan Vaden in savannah, and the remote start module I bought was recalled by GM, so whatever,
and they could NOT figure out what to do, or what the car had in it, or how to program it.

so she took it home.

she is going to have her husband take it to another GM dealer tomorrow

it's hard to find intelligent life at dealerships, some times..

any body here know the deal?

Just buy an aftermarket remote start and wire it up yourself. I understand you want factory. But if her remotes she got when she bought the car don't have it than that would tell me that not all of the components for remote start are hooked up. Think of it like this. Gm builds the car on an assembly line, so it will be there but you will need to research what isn't hooked up. Dads dually has a way to charge a battery up via receiver plug. BUT we had to hook up some wires to make it function properly. Everything was there. Now, as far as remotes. Not every remote will work. A dealer is suppose to pull a code off of pcm and match it to coding on a remote. Than they have to program it to vehicle. Had to do this on past vehicles.

I've been dealing with problems on the wife's 08 Malibu with factory equipped remote start. Replaced the battery and now only one button works....the trunk.

Everywhere I can find says dealer has to program the remote with a Tech II scanner. I called a friend (GM Master Tech) and he said that if one button works they all should, to try fiddling with the contacts inside.....didn't work.

From what I have read researching this, the '08 + GM had to be programmed via Tech II scanner to set the car to "learn mode." My 2007 you can do it yourself with no scanner.

Have you tried the new remotes with the DIY method you found (not your Tahoe remote)?

So the module you have was recalled? What does that mean? Are they going to take it from you and give you the right/new one?

Im not sure on that car but I can see the remote start enable disable with tuning software on alot of new vehicles. I would think the dealer would have to enable that if that is disabled on her car. I know if I turn it off in the ecm it wont remote start so I am assuming the dealer can do the same.

I did this on my 07 silvy. I got the fobs, bought the activation code and programmed it with the tech 2.

dunno, i will ask her to try the new remotes

dunno about the recall, they just handed them back to here, since I bought them on ebay.

i will just re-sell the module on ebay and keep the remotes

You will need a code that has to be purchased from GM.
