Video of first drive on NEW TT setup Update 9-5-09

Took the car for a quick ride yesterday. First time since September of 07 I have driven the car under its own power.

Here are a few videos.

This is still on a stock computer and no boost. This thing is going to be an absolute monster. It makes my previous big block car seem like a Hot Wheel car. I have the base tune built I just have to get a new laptop before I can load it. Then just fix the exhaust and a few other things and I'll be set.

you running a muffler off the down pipe?

Fun stuff.

No mufflers. That's both down pipes open. They end right about where a set of standard fox long tube headers would stop.

Very nice. Glad to see you got it going.

Cool. Must feel good to finally get a project going.

Awesome! What is your static compression ratio?

Bradleyrj 08-06-2009 09:06 AM

9.0:1 is what its supposed to be I think.

With a good tune and that compression ratio you should be able to safely run around 15 lbs of Boost on 93 octane. Need to keep track of your 02 count and knock retard. I would run a Methenol Injection System (like SMC or Snow) just to be safe. With Meth you can crank up the Boost some more..........It should be a Beast for sure. :bigthumb:

I have a wide band to monitor things.. and 15 lbs of boost on this motor will be way more than a stock block can take. I have been looking at an AIS Injection system for a while.. Just no more money right now.

Congrats man- I am jealous. I know what it's like to have to wait and wait and wait.
I am going to get to hear mine fire up Monday. Finally.
Keeps us posted on your continued progress.

Oh........thought the bottom end was beefed up.

LXtasy 08-06-2009 10:44 PM

Its not really the bottom end to worry about. It is literally THE BLOCK!

Bradleyrj 08-07-2009 06:55 AM

Rotating assembly is good to go.. block ...is not.

I'm not sure what they do on other makes, but high HP GN's use a Girdle to reinforce everything. Many making over 1,000 HP..............But the question is how much $$$ can you afford to put into it? I just put in a short block that was built by a "supposed great engine builder" in the Buick GN community..............see the pic below. This happened at 14 lbs of Boost. Normally I run 25 lbs when spraying methenol. Talk about being pissed off!!! I had only 200 miles on this engine. Appears that this builder did not know how to torque rod bolts??? That is what I get for going for a deal that was too good to pass up..................that is 2K down the drain, and of course there is no warranty. Just folks willing to help out once I tear it apart to find out exactly what went wrong. This happened in June and I'm still too pissed to mess with it.

All a stud girdle is good for on a stock 5.0 block is holding the two halves together when it splits. I think RM1 can vouch for this.

Made some progress today. Cut up and old piece of interior so the texture would match and painted it black with some SEM to match. Already had the guage cage in the dash vent. Also have an AFR gauge that will be on the pillar that hooks up to my wideband.

Bradleyrj 09-05-2009 11:10 PM

UPDATE!!! Its TUNED !!! Got a few things buttoned up today and tuned it tonight. Still open headers so I couldnt drive it. Gonna drive it tomorrow. I borrowed a friends GoPro so I can take some in car video.. I cant wait to see boost!!!
