Wow, i'm very sorry to hear this. I hope the families stay strong and they will be in our prayers. I often pray before I race, racing is dangerous, no two ways about it.

DORCHESTER — A driver died at the Dorchester Dragway Sunday night after his truck struck another racer, flipped and hit and concrete pole.

Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet identified the man as 40-year-old Barry Wright. Nisbet said Wright had been racing a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck against a Ford Mustang when the Mustang lost control and spun around.

The back end of the Mustang hit the back end of the pickup, causing Wright to lose control and roll over, according to Nisbet. He said the truck pinned Wright against a post.

Nisbet said Wright died of positional asphyxia, meaning he couldn’t breathe.

Dorchester County sheriff’s Maj. John Garrison said the other driver was not injured in the 9:15 p.m. crash.

Very unfortunate. Tara/Rob again very sorry this happened to you and that you were involved with this tragedy. I hope you handle the grieving well and recover at your own pace. Also my condolences to Barrys familiy. It must have happened about 10-15 minutes after I left.

If you go to the track try to take every precaution possible to remain as safe as possible but know you are not guaranteed to survive and get to go home to your loved ones. This sports consequences are far greater than its rewards.

Last night was a real eye opener for me, ive seen plenty of wrecks but for some reason this one woke me up. Was a serious tragedy for everyone involved. Accidents happen and like has been said before, it was just his time to go. After last night im looking into a roll cage and helmet, could have just as easily been any one of us out there. All of my prayers go to his family and friends.

Was checking for an obituary and found this. I feel they could have left out Taras name but it is what it is now.

http://www.postandcourier.com/news/2...way-kills-man/

DORCHESTER -- The Dorchester Dragway is a place where roaring engines, squealing tires and white-knuckle excitement are the norm.

On Sunday, it became a place of tragedy.

Barry Wright, 40, of North Charleston sat behind the wheel of a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck at the Dorchester Dragway around 9:15 p.m. Tara Griffin, a 24-year-old Summerville woman, drove a white Ford Mustang in the next lane over.

At some point after they gunned it off the line, the back of the Mustang "got loose," from Griffin, she told Dorchester County deputies. Her car spun and clipped the back of Wright's truck.

Wright lost control, and the truck rolled over, according to County Coroner Chris Nisbet. The truck pinned Wright against one of the light timing poles, where Wright died of positional asphyxia, Nisbet said.

Wright became trapped inside his truck and couldn't breathe. He had died by the time rescue workers arrived.

Gerald Mishoe, a regular at the track, said the racing usually goes well into the night and sometimes into morning. On Sunday, with Wright's truck attached to the timing pole and his mother crying, Mishoe said he found himself anxious to leave.

"I've never seen anyone killed or hurt seriously," he said.

The Delee family opened the Dorchester Dragway more than 25 years ago off U.S. Highway 78 just past the Oakridge Landfill. Family members believe their strip, an old cotton field that four brothers converted into a race track, marked the first minority- owned dragway.

People gather there every Sunday night to barbecue, sell refreshments and cheer on their favorite cars. Spectators pay $5 to get into the weekly "grudge matches."

I Like(not really) how they turned it into a promotional ad at the end.

I have been going to Dorchester since the gates opened, as a matter of fact Elijah Sr, pulled me from drinking and street racing to organized racing. In the 25 plus years of racing I have heard of more fatalities in local street racing scene than at any of the local tracks. From my point of view, not even 10 feet away from the vehicles on the starting line, it was a definate freak accident. My prayers go out to both families involved.

I assume these people have no clue, have never been there, have never raced, don't know anyone in the racing community and don't know anyone that was involved. The most they know about racing, the event and the people involved is what they read online in a news article. So arguing with them would be a losing battle and they would never understand where your coming from while continuing to live their non existent ignorant self centered lifes.

Like Gerald said "If I don't like the station I change the channel." These people need to learn that and stop trying to make others conform to their beliefs and opinions. Because regardless of what they say this accident will only bring all of us closer.
