Some of us found this out the hard way because of listening to the old schoolers riding the pine and saying "oh well slappers cal tracs work good on s-10's and silverado's and nova's and chevelles yadda yadda yadda". Well guess what, they don't work on a lightning period, I tried them both.
Lightning in video is equiped with CalTracs. Converted from JLP longbars that they could not make work. MHP did the setup and the motor build. Manny posted this info himself.

I just went and found that thread, I had not seen the thread.

Could be, the anti-squat action that those cal tracs have may work better on the street or its spinning some and not dead hooking and the anti squat characteristics of those cal- tracs kept the pressure from the axle twisting down on the tires.

Also seen where it said that truck only ran 7.30's at the track, thats a turtle for whats done to it if its on a race setup which is what it looks like it was on.

I know from personal experience at the track that what happens with those cal-tracs is it will hook, push the bar forward, bind on the leaf spring, and unload about 10 feet out on a dead hook and it looks like the bed hopps up off the ground and the nose just falls flat. Me and chris both had this same problem.

I can see where though, he might be right if bite on the tires is marginal and there's not much transfer going on that hitting the tires harder might help.

I even tried overload leafs on mine, because I thaught the springs might be too soft and were acting like a sponge to the cal-trac action and then bouncing back like a trampoline and causing the rear to hop up like that but it still did it even with the helper's on there and it rode like rigid bike and that sucked.

Mine will hook on a dirt road...
