Purpose of Rep points

Just curious what they did. I don't think I've seen them on any other forum before. The color change is what caught my eye not the number. Still don't know what the numb means, are they 1 point per person or comment?

The more rep you have the more rep points you give when you rep somebody. If I were to rep you it would give you close to 100 rep points. And whoever neg-repped me only took away 4 points, so that just proves the point that I said in the very post for which I was neg repped
