Default Anyone ever have this problem?

Yesterday I was leaving work and I started my truck. It started fine so I put it in gear and drove away. I got about 150 Yrds down the street and the truck started sputtering and died. I quickly pull over to get out of the lane and sit there for a few Mins. I tried to crank my truck up and it would start just fine then it would die out. It did that about 3 times. Then I popped the hood to check out Vac hoses, connectors, and such under the hood and everything looked fine. So I close the hood start the truck up and it runs fine and havent had any problems since.

Anyone have any ideas WTF

BTW I do need to change the Fuel filter could this be a problem?

Bad/clogged fuel filter normally isn't noticed until after 50-55mph.

The mustang I had did the similar thing you described. And it was either a dirty maf, dirty IAC or clogged egr. I cleaned the maf and IAC and installed a new egr. I know it doesnt help you on what happened yesterday, and it was an entirely different vehicle. Heck i would replace your fuel filter, clean the maf and iac and other items just to have a peace of mind.

Default ENGINE STALL

I agree with Jr. Sounds like a sticking idle control valve or a stuck open egr valve.

A clogged fuel filter will limit injector pressure & cause loss of power when accerating.

Ford fuel filters should be changed every 15,000 miles. They clog up more than other makes of vehicles.

If your engine stalls again, do you have to slightly crack the throttle to keep it running, if so the IAC sound like the culprit.

Also when was the last time you cleaned the throttle body???

Just my 2 cents, but i would start with changing the fuel filter, they are about 4 or 5 bucks at walmart and take about 10 minutes to change with the right tool. My moms 2007 4.6 3V explorer had the same problem, dad changed the fuel filter, tried blowing through it with the air compressor nozzle and a little bit of black and brown crap came out. When he put the new one on everything was fine and dandy. I would start with this and then go from there, this could solve everything. Like i said just my 2 cents.

When I tried pumping the gas it would still die out so that didnt work.

The TB was cleaned not to long ago.

Thanks Lurch and Turtle I will try changing out my filter when I get a chance. Work is killing me to much OT !! But OT helps pay for mods!!

Does anyone know the pro's and con's to doing an EGR delete?

If you have access to a fuel pressure gauge, check that. There is a possibility that the pump has taken a shit. It may have had enough fuel and pressure in the lines to run for a couple of seconds, but-that was it. As Bill said, fuel filters plug easily; and, if it has been way too long since the last filter change, the pumps are kind of notorious for going bad as well.

I don't know how the Ferds work but mine acted like that when the MAF was covered in crap. Quick way to check is to unplug it. If that's the case it will run normal with it unplugged. Spray it down with electical cleaner and it's good as new.

EGR delete may or may not cause the "check engine" light to come on.... Do you have an oiled filter or a non oiled one? Alot of K&N's and such can cause alot of crap to build up on the MAF as jay said. if too much oil is put on the filter it sucks it through and the oil attracts dirt. I would still go with the cheap and easy way first, simply just change the fuel filter and when you get it out try and blow through it with your mouth and you will see what your fuel pump is going though. Like my dad said we change ours every other oil change on ours, daryls, dereks, devens, bills, and still always get a bunch of crap that comes out of them no matter how soon we change them. They sell a little fuel filter tool that looks like a pair of scissors with no handle on them that makes it really easy and you wont bend lines and smash the fuel filter trying to get it out. P.S. my dad has the tools and is willing to help....

My dad was saying to you chris, that you should start with the easiest first (fuel filter) and then move to the more complicated things if that doesnt work. I guess they are making fun of what my dad said to LXtasy or maybe the mispelling by my dad????
