Default Narrowed housing.

I know this is really a transmission forum...but I thought someone that reads this might know. Since my IRS deal fell through I am thinking about narrowing my 8.8 housing 2 inches on each side. Anyone around north eastern SC or south eastern NC that has a jig that can do it properly and weld on some 9 inch ends?

Thanks
Brad

Your post is in the right forum. Shortly after the original transmission forum's creation, Mike decided to include drivetrain issues along with it, as they are closely related.

If you don't happen to find anybody up there in your neck of the woods to weld your ends on for you, feel free to give me a call down here in Summerville @843-509-3838. We did the 9" ends on Darryl's 8.8" and they came out excellent. It shure was nice to get away from those leaking ass c-clip eliminators that were on there before. I haven't seen a set of those that don't eventually leak. The 9" ends are definitely the way to go.

I'll definitely be in touch. I will still have to get axles, wheels, tires, some other parts before I do this but atleast I know someone can do it close. I come to Summerville atleast once a week for work so pickup / delivery is no biggie.

I want to keep my Cobra brakes so its my understanding I have to use the Smaller 9 inch style bearings which should still be plenty adequate for what I intend to do with the car?

Anything 9" related is a step up from an 8.8". When you get your ends in, check the flange hole spacing to see if it is compatible with the Cobra caliper brackets.

Gerald do you have an empty housing we could start this work with? I am still checking to see about the 9 inch ends, see which ones I need to use to keep my Cobra brakes.

Oh and I believe these http://www.jegs.com/i/Strange+Engine...H1138/10002/-1 are the housing ends I'll need. Anyone know if that is right?

Thanks
Brad

Call Summit they are Mosier part# MSR-7700, and they are $83.00 for the pair. Harry just ordered a pair for the teil Mustang, and he got the part number from mine on the LTD. Now keep in mind you can also order them with axles, end tubes, and the correct 9" bearing already installed, they just need the length. And you can make your brakes work, Harry's teil 93 mustang has Cobra brakes all around..

Thanks. I'm looking on Summits site now but cant find where it come as a "kit" with axles.

Edit.. I just called Summit and the guy said there isnt a "kit" Each part would have to be ordered seperately. BUT I cant remember the length of a stock axle? I want to say 29 1/4 but cant say for sure. I have decided to not narrow the housing now because I don't want to run spacers on the Cobra wheels and I don't want to Mini tub it. A 17x10 rim with a 295 tire will be plenty for me for now. So I just need axle ends and the correct length axles.

I can"t remember but I think axles out of an SN95 chassis car is like 11/16 longer than a fox body, but I am not sure, I just know an SN95 chassis is longer..

If you need anything from Mosier I can beat Summits pricing 99% of the time. Just sold a Mosier 9in for a f body last week.

I have SN stock axles now. They are almost an inch longer because of the excitor ring for the ABS. I want to go with a fox length or shorter axle and use the North Race Car brackets to move my brakes in where they need to be for the correct axle.

33 spline spool, Fox length axles ( 29 1/4 I believe ), 9 inch ends that will accept the North Race Car brackets. That's what I need. Can you get me a price on that?

Did you narrow your housing? If so how much and how long were the axles you ordered?

I looked at that Moser Custom Axle order form and got real confused.

I Haven't gotten that far yet. I don't plan on narrowing the housing at all. Mosier said that once we get the axle ends on that we will have to fill out a custom axle sheet. Really not sure whats to come.
