some of you know some of you don't well i bought hal's truck. it aint the fastest thing in the world but i do love the way it looks. it will be fast before long. trust me. well heres the dilemma i have. he never cranked the motor before i got it for more than a mintue. well now it will crank on its own about 3 times but it turns over slow and then after about the third time it doesent crank any more. but when it does crank it sounds damn good. we basically have it narrowed down to 2 things. the battery or starter. any input or things to try? if no one has n e thing to add ill just try those.
p.s who put the thermostat in this bad boy? haha o yeah it has 13 volts at battery and after i went to crank it up the fourth time and it wouldnt it was at 12.7. ima load test it tomorrow.

Check the ground maybe that is it. Which is under the bed near the passenger side rear tire.
ALSO battery is in the bed FYI. You haven't load tested the battery yet? Like I said yesterday the battery has been sitting for awhile and probably could be dead as the truck just sat most of the time.

yeah it had 13 volts when i checked it out today then after a few cranks it only had 12.7 but i have it in the back seat of my car and i am load testing it tomorrow. i cranked it up today and it sounded damn good. got a nice lil chop to it. if it isnt the battery then how old is the starter? ima have to check that next. you dont reckon the motor could be too tight do ya?

most the time 12.7 will be good. its when you get closer to 11 then you got a problem. I would check and make sure you got good grounds and then see what she doo. If that dont help just put a manual trans in it and just push start it!!!!!!

Starter's age is undetermined at this time. Check the ground for the battery and lmk.

yeah man i really like the truck were going thursday and putting the seats on it and moving it to suit me. haha. i will check the ground tomorrow but i think it is a starter solenoid problem. once it gets hot it wont start at all. and barely turn over. ill give you a call tomorrow evening hal and let you know what i find

Your saying crank and I'm thinking the motor turning over. But you said when it does crank it sounds good.
As for the slow cranking, could need a high torque starter depending on the compression or the batter doesn't have enough cranking amps or combination of the two. |

but it looks like you are building a nice yard full of trucks, congrats on the purchase. Hal, I'm sorry you had to sell it, but when he gets all the kinks worked out you will be able to see it go down the track

Tyler. I am not sure if the ground strap that is on the back of the motor on the passenger side coming off the transmission is hooked up. Check that as well, I woke up this morning and thought of that.
Unsure of the compression of the motor. I know those heads lower the compression so I am unsure of that one. I do not know how to determine that one.

If its slow to crank, have you checked the basics yet? Timing and carb adjustments?
