Default wtb: cheap V8 & tranny combo for 3rd gen Firebird

buddy has a V6 bird,

thinking a V8 swap will be easy.

automatic would be easiest.


what would i find at LKQ?

mostly looking for something driveable,

so the majority of the work is the swap, not the rebuild.

he has a 350 in parts now, ready to go to the machine shop.
was wondering if we could score a running engine for what the work & parts would cost.

whats a break even price for rebuild/vice buying a used motor?

Just get a used vortec motor and a 700 from a junkyard, some places even warranty. Rob should be able to help you with this.

what i was thinking

a good Vortec motor should run fairly hard too, out the box.

prolly throw and intake and carb on it to simplify things, be good to go.

you can pick up a 5.3 even cheaper. get a carb and intake. the conversion mounts. mo power. fuel economy. i know where one is for 350 if he still has it
