Too much.

The newer motors add some to the value but not 20K..

Those motors are probably 10-15K a piece but I think just because you put a new motor on a boat or car it doesnt automatically bump the value up the same price.

I just finished a fence about 10 houses down from this guy. Driving by the boat looks really damn clean. He's off orangeburgh rd in suncrest. Nice neighborhood.

Those merc's make about 300 a piece easy, there bad boy motors thats for sure. There's a reason when you watch boat races you hardly ever see a johnson, Yamaha, or evinrude, and 90% of them are Merc's or Mariners (same thing). Because their fast and make more power than what they say on the side.

Downfall, exactly ehat 1bad said. They dont last at all and are filled with problems if you use them. Probably why he's selling and the boat's so nice, can't afford the repair bill no more.

Problems problem problems!!!! Those motors are fast, super quiet, and riddled with problems. I ran a 34' with triple 275's in college for a summer job. Can't tell you how many days these motors kept us on the dock!!!

My little 40hp Johnson cost $1100 for a total rebuild....I'd hate to think what it would cost on one of those.....I think it's a good bit overpriced, and the boat is too old itself for me to even consider it. Just my 2 cents (or 1.5...lol)

That one would be much worse than the typical B.O.A.T. acronym.....Break Off Another Thousand if it broke on you....

I agree that you need to stay away from Verado's.

I will also add that I had a Contender about the same size for a while, and although I loved going offshore, a boat that size is probably the biggest pain in the ass thing I have ever owned, including broken race cars.

I'd love to do some offshore fishing and just have fun. Everyone I know cringed when they says the mercs. I may pass this up and focus on a 22-24ft boat.

Matt I have tons of hours off-shore experience! Here is my advice. That fountain is a needle it has no beam at all! Aside from a 60'ft sport fish the BEST option for and all around fishing/cost effective/ offshore capable boat is a 25' + or so foot catamaran with twin yamaha's.

Love them or hate them it's the truth

Too much for that age. I do not agree with what was said about the Verado's. I'd have a Verado over a Yamaha all day long. We sell both and all you have to do is walk through our service dept. to see why. Charleston is a Yamaha town, and most people hate Mercury because dealers that sold OMC went to Yamaha when OMC bankrupted. I just would not want a boat that big for a play toy.

My friends gave me shit when I bought my Sea Fox with a 90 HP Saltwater Merc, but I towed no fewer than three Yamahas back to the landing with it.

I absolutely loved the old school carbureted 2 stroke Mercs. Those were the best designed 2 stroke boat engines of their time. I too had a carbureted 90hp 2 stroke saltwater Merc on an 18ft bay boat a while back and it was dead nuts reliable, although thirsty.

I currently have a tiller steer 40hp Merc EFI 4 stroke on my 15ft jon boat. It has been dead nuts reliable, too.

Seems like most of the horror stories about Mercs lately seem to be concentrated on the higher technology, higher horsepower models. I wonder if its due to raged edge engineering?

My best friend works in the yachting world of costa rica, baja mexico, california, europe, etc. He started out when the verados were just hitting the market. He is the chief engineer on a 100 foot sportfish currently and each of his previous yachts have been well over that. They have all had "tenders" in the 28-34 foot range. He has NEVER had a verado with good results, THEY ARE JUNK, DONT LAST, AND ARE NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. That being said, each one of the yachts he works on now have yamahas or suzukis. Because yamahas are the leading outboard, they probably have the most problems because of lack of maintenance. Just like a vehicle to the average person, if you dont service it on regular intervals its not going to last in MOST cases. Just my .02 cents.

However the mercs do outperform all other outboards...
