Default Borla XR-1's

has anyone on here put XR-1's in an exhaust as the only muffler? looking at replacing my stock mufflers with XR-1 2.5" 12x4.25" case mufflers after i have the X-pipe put in this week that will remove two cats and a mid muffler. how did it sound? was it on an LS motor?

On a Terminator with a KB..

Do yourself a favor and do not remove two cats. The mid muffler may be alright.. I've got full length headers into high flow cats, x pipe and Borla catback with XR-1's with a 3" pipe and it screams at WOT. Had the cats off for a few years and it was just too loud. The drone never did go away until I hit 80 on the interstate. At WOT the car was like the start of the Daytona 500. The Chevy boys got to hear the call of the wild.

The cats keep the car quiet around town and i hear the radio.

I don't consider my XR-1 to be to loud for a 4" setup, it's very reasonable daily driving/conversation in the truck. I'm running their 16", oval design, no cats. However the turbo/turbine housing eats some of the sound. Over all sound is great in my opinion.

The car will still have cats, they are SLP "high flow" cats that came with the headers. this is what i have currently

they are TINY cats that i cant see helping kill sound.

supposedly this setup with stock mufflers sounds pretty good but i would drop 35lbs off the car just by going to an XR1 muffler over the stock ones... i assume i'll lose 20lbs from mid muffler and the two cats this week.

Here are the headers are are on the car right now... 1 3/4" to 2.5" w/ cats

I got bullets off the headers merging into a borla xr-1. It sounds gooooooooooooood. On an lt1 though, so of course it sounds better than ls crud.

i did a 3" system on a ls2 fox body with them. it had long tubes no cats Xr1s and 3" tail pipes. I think it sounds real good and not too loud.

I had XR-1s on my C5 vert years ago. Loved the sound...HATED the drone! Was the single center resonator and stock manifolds/cats.

Just run open head like a boss. Don't even worry about headers... And run 2% tint.
