Default Big thanks to Gerald!

Had Gerald build a 4l80E for me and I received it back today. Extremely knowledgeable individual on transmissions. He took the time to explain in explicit detail what needed to be done for the goals I had in mind & I have no doubt the transmission will perform as expected.

I highly recommend anyone looking to get transmission work done to go see Gerald.

What's the 4l80e for, the TBSS or the Camaro?

I appreciate the recommendations, fellas. I get my kicks off of seeing how many engines might give up before one of my transmissions behind them gives up! Just ask Darryl about taking an AOD to places hardly any AODs have gone before! Even in a 3600lb car like his, no less.

I even have a few 4L60Es out there that have made believers out of what one of these units can stand. It's all about attention to detail along with putting the necessary upgraded parts inside to survive the horsepower that will be going through it. I won't recommend any high dollar upgrade parts unless you really need them for your trans to last behind your desired horsepower.

I don't like spending your money any more than I like spending mine. It's all about making a living vs. making a killing that keeps future business rolling in.

Oh yeah, don't forget about Rob, either. Between myself, and Rob and Pete down at PT's Transmission Parts, we all have been known to trade tricks and ideas back and forth on various transmissions to make them last behind some power. We have been able to save each other plenty of R&D time in the past by throwing all our experience together. You will get a good job from either one of us.

P.S. - Rob says he hates rear end work! That's fine, I don't mind those, either. Some can be a pain in the ass, but it's all about putting one together and looking at the contact pattern, then taking back apart, change shims, and put it back together again. Sometimes I can end up doing this 5 or 6 times before I get a pattern I approve of, but it is worth it not to listen to a whining rear end. A proper contact pattern will handle more power than a marginal pattern, too.

Gerald can do it period. Very meticulous about his work. Can't go wrong with him. He does other work too, not just drivetrain stuff.

What a great statement! I wish all business owners thought like that. That statement alone might make me bring business your way sir.

From what I have been able to find out, the evolution of the T56 goes like this: T56, T56 Magnum, and then the TR6060. Reportedly, the TR6060 is the smoothest shifting box of the 3, mainly due to its original design target of going into the Cadillac. The 6060 doesn't use the synchro keys like the original T56, so aftermarket billet keys aren't needed.

As far as the T56 in your year Vette, it already has multi piece blocker rings that the Cobra/LS1 T56 doesn't. This makes it smoother shifting than the other T56s. All you can do to the Vette T56 is put in the billet 3/4 synchro keys, the steel 3/4 shift fork, and bronze shift fork pads. There are upgraded Viper spec 30 spline output shafts available for the non-Vette versions that raise the torque rating of the gearbox. The Vette owners are screwed in this area due to the standard 27 sline output shaft needing to match up to the 27 spline pinion gear of the rearend.

Even though the T56 Magnum and the newest TR6060 are rated higher in torque capacity, consider that you don't hear of too many failures on the regular T56 after the above mentioned 3 upgrades. Most folks will usually have their clutch give up long before their T56 does with these 3 mods.

Carl,

Are you running a diff brace yet? Other than the stuff Gerald mentioned, that would be my recomendation if you are going to slicks. If the case cracks at that joint it will usually take the diff case with it.

No diff brace, if it goes, Id really like to swap in the Z06 TR6060 transmission and rear diff, it has the bigger 32 spline shaft as well.
can anyone give me a price quote on that?
Anyone want to buy a lightly used, never beat on 06 rear and tranny? lol
